Back in September we were introduced the TecTecTec brand with their ULT-X Rangefinder, that we thought was terrific. Today, we take a deep dive on the TecTecTec ULT-G GPS Golf Watch. First, a little back story on the company itself to better understand their lineup. Since 2014, TecTecTec states it has been a pioneer in affordable and technologically advanced laser rangefinders.

The company is driven by their leader, Director Renan, an industrial engineer, and world traveler with a strong passion for quality and almost a decade of experience in Europe and Asia working for a Fortune 500 company. In 2010, Renan entered the golf business, but became quickly dismayed with expensive production charges and middlemen driving up retail and distribution costs, thus creating unfair prices for his valued customers. The result was Renan starting a new business with the customer in mind, a company grounded in world-class customer service aimed at providing superior products directly to the consumer.

Given our happiness with the ULT-X we were eager to try out the ULT-G GPS Golf and the best part about having to do a golf review is you get to hit the course in the process. Read on for the full details.

Design:

When the TecTecTec ULT-G GPS watch arrives, your first impression will be simple. For some products that might be an insult, but when you read the description of the watch on the TecTecTec website, the 5th word is; Simple. That was one of the main goals behind the design of the watch. Be lightweight, easy-to-use, durable, and simple. The ULT-G GPS Golf Watch is designed to save you time by getting you information fast. This quick information will help you make accurate club choices and improve your game fast with simplicity and durability you can count on.

The charging port features a proprietary charger USB charge that you probably do not have a spare for. I would have preferred a more standard charger to make it compatible with other chargers. Overall, the watch has a nice and easy design to it. It is lightweight but is a bit bulky in comparison to other watches. It is not a deal breaker by any means but just sits up higher than other sport watches.

Ease of Use:

One of my main appeals to the ULT-G watch is how incredibly simple it is to use. After initial setup, which is easy, you head to the course and hit the satellite button to begin searching. The watch will present you with 3-5 nearby courses with the one you are at always listed first. The watch will always put you at the first tee box so if you are starting on the back nine make sure you adjust the hole. Once you are set, you really do not have to do anything from there except play golf.

The watch will follow you around the course and moves to the next hole when it should. Sometimes with laser finders you are double checking your spot to make sure you spotted it correctly. Sometimes you second guess yourself but with the ULT-G I never doubted the distances. The simplicity of the watch really shines when you are on the course, it gives you the information you need.

Accuracy:

We tested against multiple range finders, including the ULT-X and the ULT-G accuracy is spot-on. Obviously, accuracy of distance is important in any rangefinder or golf watch and the ULT-G holds its own in this category. For most courses you can tell if the pin is the front, center or back so the watch gives you the information you need. The real serious golfers that want to go pin seeking on every green may miss the dead-on laser finder yardage. For the other 95% of us who are just trying to hit pars and bogeys, having these three distances should be all we need to make an accurate club choice. Overall, very impressed with the accuracy on the ULT-G.

Battery:

The battery life on the ULT-G gets you about 2-3 rounds depending on how you treat the watch. After you are done with your round, make sure you end your round and turn the watch off. If you do not end your round, you will drain the battery very quickly. If you end your round and don’t turn off the watch you will get some more time out of the watch, but it will likely be dead the next time you go to use it.

I mentioned the proprietary charger which was a bit of a disappointment. Another issue with the charger is you need a charging base for it to charge. I forgot to charge it before a round and the course had USB charging ports in the carts so I thought I could charge the watch during my round. Unfortunately, they cord does not generate enough power for the watch without a base so I could not charge it. Not a huge deal but because you become to depend on this watch so much, you will kick yourself when you forget to charge the ULT-G.

Value:

Priced at $119.99, this watch has incredible value. I really do not use my laser range finder anymore because the watch gives me everything I need to pick the right club. Does not mean I always pick the right club, but I have what I need to try. The watch is easy to use, accurate, and inexpensive. If you are looking for a new friend on the course to be your own personal caddy, then I highly suggest your look at the TecTecTec ULT-G golf watch.
