If you’ve read our last review on Head’s MP racquet, then you’re aware of how well it held up in our testing. So of course we were excited to test out Head’s latest Graphene Touch line of racquets. Among the five new racquets, we tested the Instinct MP. The Instinct MP has been modified with the latest Graphene material and added Kraibon for improved shock absorption. Made for “Effortless Power”, this racquet came packed with new features that definitely showed in our month of testing.
Key Features:
- Graphene Touch Technology
- Added Kraibon for improved shock absorption
- 10.6 oz (unstrung)
- Head size: 645 cm² / 100 in²
- Balance: 320 mm / 1 in HL
- Length: 685 mm / 27 in
- Beam: 23/26/23 mm
Design:
The Graphene Touch Instinct MP is designed to adapt and have a solid dampened feel, thus providing the benefit of effortless high performance and comfort due to a brand new frame construction. The version we tested has a white grip, which looks great when you first unwrap it, but after several sets it started to look a little grungy. I prefer the traditional black grip just so it at least appears clean after a several uses. However, I love the midnight blue colorway with green accents, and the new sound grommets (that help provide less vibration), come as part of the racquet’s elaborate construction that provide an overall clean look with a frame that pops.
Playability:
Starting with my very first serve, I could tell right away that this racquet had great playability. Every serve felt in control and had speed and power to go with it. After each set, I felt even more confident with this racquet. The incredibly easy playability was due partly because of the specially designed cross-section,which provides more stability. Also, having a bigger sweet spot made all the difference and provided some forgiveness on the “not so great” serves.
Control:
As mentioned above, the control I had with this racquet allowed for great playability. When you’re working on increasing your swing speed and power, you need a racquet with control. I’m happy to say that the Instinct MP allowed me to stay in control while increasing swing speed and power. The new Graphene Touch technology provided an incredible touch and solid, dampened feel. This dampening helped add to the racquet’s unique mix of comfort and control.
Value:
Overall, Head hit another Ace with the Instinct MP. The Graphene Touch Technology packed with added Kraibon for added shock absorption and control proves that they are continuing their commitment of improving their brand and producing innovative new lines. The Instinct MP retails for $225, which is in line with their previous MP models. So, for $225 you get a new look with more control and power than before… yeah, we think it’s a great value!
