The cold days are upon us. It’s time to winterize our lives and that means projects are popping up all over the place. Between the garage, the yard, and the work shed, the unpredictable outdoor conditions that come with that transitional period between fall and winter can bring additional challenges in getting things done productively and comfortably. If we don’t take care of ourselves properly, we can’t take care of our chores properly either, and thankfully Carhartt is there to outfit us. This fall we wore the Cahartt Brookville Jacket while we made our wintertime preparations.CarharttBrookville_Front

Carhartt Brookville Review Breakdown

Design:

The Carhartt Brookville Jacket, at first glance, is about as basic in design as they come. It is available in flat black, breen, and gravel colors, which are perfect options for any hard working man depending on the jobs he needs to get CarharttBrookville_Interiordone. Any stains or grime the jacket may pick up along the way can be factored in based on the projects you do, making work stains less noticeable over time, and lending to this jacket’s visual longevity.

The Brookville Jacket has four frontal pockets and two internal pockets, so carrying extra items is no problem. The two breast pockets are equipped with snaps, and the internal pockets close as well (one zipper, one velcro), so the items you’re carrying are kept safe and secure.

To add a little sweetener, if you’re into listening to your favorite tunes while doing a little yard work, there is a media port in the left breast pocket that will hold a headphone chord securely during movement. The breast pocket, however, is a little small for most smartphones if that’s what you use for music, so you may need to store your listening device in the zipped inside pocket, limiting accessibility.

Comfort:

The exterior nylon of the Carhartt Brookville Jacket is equipped with a Rain Defender® durable water-repellent finish, so if it does start to precipitate on the job, any moisture beads up, and drips away from the jacket, optimizing comfort in most any conditions.

This is a rugged jacket made for hard work, so don’t expect an extravagant fluffy lining. The Carhartt Brookville Jacket’s nylon lining doesn’t lend a great deal to comfort, but does keep the body cooler on those warmer days.

The exterior nylon is quilted with both vertical and horizontal stitching, so any cold spots in the 100gram 3M™ Thinsulate™ insulation are less likely to develop over time, thus keeping the body temperature consistent from neck to waist. In addition to insulation, the Carhartt Brookville Jacket is equipped with draw chord adjustability in the waist and hood, as well as multiple snaps in the sleeves, so when the wind intensifies the cool breeze can be locked out in a cinch.

Technically more of a fall or spring coat, the Brookville Jacket provides a bit more room than other jackets, so on the occasion the temperature drops beyond bearable temperatures, adding a few layers underneath can be done so comfortably, and without limiting mobility.

Versatility:

Because the Carhartt Brookville Jacket is basic in design, it does carry an acceptable place in just about any environment with respect to style. However, although we have discovered that it fares well with or without layers to provide warmth, we wouldn’t recommend making this the go-to jacket for prolonged winter activities. Because of the dark exterior options though, it does fare well on a sunny winter day as it draws in plenty of heat from the atmosphere. That being said, on an early fall day when the temperatures haven’t quite bottomed out yet, be prepared for more warmth than than you’ll necessarily need with few options for extra ventilation.

Brookville_Cvr2If your thing is working in the Garage or woodshed, this is the environment where we find this jacket shines the brightest. Even in the dead of winter, a basic space heater will be all that you need to stay comfortable to get your work done in comfort.

Value:

Pricing in at $99.99 – $109.99 (dependent on sizing needs), the Carhartt Brookville Jacket has an entirely fair price point. Capable of keeping its wearer protected and comfortable in the majority of conditions, as well as an acceptable compliment to just about any social situation a rugged man may find himself in, this is an item that just about any man can be satisfied with being available in his closet.
