This week saw the official release of Selena Gomez’s personal and heartfelt album Revival, as well as a “Heartbeat” from Carrie Underwood, and another kick-buster from Ellie Goulding to get you moving. From the fellas The Game teamed up with Dej Loaf and Shasha for a 90’s hardcore rap throwback, and Chris Brown and Rick Ross paired off for a (heartfelt?) apology in the form of “Sorry.”

Every week brings a gift from the music world in the form of 50 new songs from every genre imaginable, and the best way to appreciate a gift is to devour it completely – head over to Spotify and get going; or check out New Music Friday All-Stars for an easy access list of this week’s songs as well as songs from weeks past.

laura_stevenson_-_cocksure_sm_2-1-560x5609. Claustrophobe by Laura Stevenson

The feel of Fall can tend to provoke major nineties nostalgia, and for those who have an extra soft spot in their hearts for the female voices of the era, look no further than Laura Stevenson. With the vibe of a Veruca Salt slow jam and the harmony of Liz Phair, Claustrophobe gives you everything to get your nineties fix but keep your feet firmly planted in the present.

19758. Love Me by The 1975

Opening with guitar riffs that sound like a homage to INXS with just a dash of She Blinded Me With Science, Love Me is the type of song that for the first couple listens you can’t help but try to put your finger on all the musical influences that went into its construction. David Bowie’s “Fame” it’s definitely at work at here as well, though the perspective is more E! News than a seventies retrospection. But with phrases like “Karcrashian panache” at least it will make your high school creative writing teacher proud.

kelela-hallucinogen-ep-new7. Rewind by Kelala

Off her EP entitled ‘Hallucinogen’ I’d be remiss in passing over that “Rewind” has an undeniable trippy vibe. While other tracks like All the Way Down and The High can take you down the rabbit hole to discover the secrets of the Universe, Rewind has a fresh dancy baseline giving you something you’ll have no trouble grooving to. It’s a high note for fans of electro pop, and a certified banger to help you get ready before a night out.

city colour6. Runaway by City and Colour

An easy, peaceful feeling will sweep over you as you dig into the latest bluegrass and sunshine tinged track from City and Colour. The Canadian native grapples with wanting to leaving it all behind, as he sings “We’re gonna run, we’re gonna run, gonna run away from the day.” It’s a tempting proposal, perfectly penned to a track made for a gentle tempo run, preferably one with an incredible view.

autograf5. Metaphysical by Autograf

Something of a form of meditation that doubles as an EDM track, Autograf has laid down a serious of introspective questions, first “Where do you love?” and then declaring “If only would let it go, you’d be metaphysical.” It’s something you could ponder into the night, or if you prefer action over musing, something you can dance to too. In its style of Trop House, it’s easy to imagine this one playing while dancing at night on the beach for those of you already ready to head to a warmer climate for winter.

rdg4. No Pixar by RDGLDGRN

Coming straight outta Reston, Virginia is RDGLDGRN (consisting of members named Red, Gold and Green to help you easily remember the acronym). No Pixar is an example of an all encompassing track that highlights the one of the biggest and most favorable trends today in new music – a style that blends influences from multiple genres. In this case it’s a little bit of indie, electro, and hip hop that creates an unique sound that captures the zeitgeist of now. Perfect for chillin’ the most.

queso3. Queso by Pell

With Silentó’s ‘Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)’ and iHeartMemphis’s ‘Run The Quan’ haven taken Summer 2015 with their infectious dances, from the opening notes of Pell’s Queso it’s easy to imagine a clever dance to move along to his chorus. Hopefully someone will come to our feet longing to dance’s rescue; in the meantime we can sink our teeth into the track’s ultra catchy lyrics.

El-Vy-Paul-Is-Alive-560x5602. Paul Is Alive by El Vy

El Vy (think plural of Elvis) is the brainchild of The National’s Matt Berninger and Menomena’s Brent Knopf in the latest project to allow each to explore themselves beyond each of their band’s respective styles. Berninger’s ultra low Nick Cavesque voice is the star of the track, taking us on a woozy tromp back to childhood, and while there’s mention of Beatlemania, it’s inconclusive who this Paul is in reference to. It won’t detract from the track in the slightest; fans of The National and Menomena are sure to be appreciative of their work here.

joey-badass-glass-animals-lose-control1. Lose Control by Glass Animals, Joey Bada$$

Glass Animals are indisputably HOT right now, having received widespread recognition and praise for their debut Zaba, released last year. It’s perfect time to start branching out and partnering with others in the biz. Enter Joey Bada$$, an wise and interesting choice, who takes the track hard in the paint, but as a partnership maintains overall vibes for something you can play into the weird hours of the night. Nobody move, nobody get hurt.
