With the warmest season in full swing, this week’s list featured not one but two songs devoted to a classic sugary summery treat: soda. Diplo, delivers a trippy, tongue clicky song that puts Dr. Pepper on ice, while Tamia sets a scene that is worthy of ‘a ‘Sandwich and a Soda.’
The rest of the 49 songs feature a standard range from euphoria to heartache and back again. Don’t miss out on a first listen to this summer’s newest songs, only on Spotify.
9. Fire Under My Feet by Leona Lewis
For those familiar with So You Think You Can Dance’s “Dance for your life” or Rupaul’s Drag Race “Lip Sync For Your Life” (a contestant must dance/lip sync the performance of their life to remain in the competition) you must surely agree that Fire Under My Feet is the perfect song for such a moment. All heart, tambourine and kick drum, Lewis packs as much emotion as her signature Bleeding Love. Leona is both equal parts Gospel and Diva, serving up a fiery reason to get moving this summer.
8. No Justice by Astronauts, etc.
Sometimes Spotify’s New Music Tuesday playlist’s is guilty of including songs that have been released 5 or so Tuesdays ago, even more so in some cases. Such is No Justice – so while you may have missed out on it when it was just days old in its freshness, know its chillness still lingers. As singer Anthony Ferraro told New York Magazine last month, lyrics like There’s No Justice For The Ones Who Are In Love ‘could lend themselves to marriage equality, but have more to do with the early days of a relationship when you’re typically the most carefree and euphoric.’
7. Let’s Ride by Ash
Let’s Ride by Ash embodies the spirit of what could be one of the best album titles ever, Kablammo! Packing in a style of power pop and youthful exuberance, it’s hard to believe Ash’s career started way back when the band formed in the early 90s. Let’s Ride is the perfect middle of the week jam – you’ve been beat down by the daily grind, but you won’t let it get the best of you.
6. Where It All Begins by Hunter Hayes with Lady Antebellum
It’s quite impressive looking at the rap sheet of the big names Hunter Hayes has collaborated with in country music, especially given that he’s all of 23 years old. Another noteworthy collaboration here, this time with Lady Antebellum, Where It All Begins is one of those chillingly motivating country songs, especially when you take time to breathe in its lyrics; “Your hardest days are part of something so much more.”
5. Money Trees Deuce by Jay Rock
On a track that couldn’t get more chill if it tried, Jay Rock meets the West Coast rapper criteria of being super laid back yet ultra creative, particularly with the elements in the background. A follow up to Money Trees featured on good kid, m.a.a.d. city, ‘Deuce’ proves that the times may have changed, but the vibes have not.
4. Sweet Love of Mine by Joy Williams
The stillness and pace of the beginning of Sweet Love of Mine is so all encompassing it seems to transport you INTO the song upon first listen. You don’t have to be a parent or even a fan of kids to get teary eyed taking in the heartfelt lyrics knowing that they’ve been written about her son Miles. And if you listen carefully you can detect a heartbeat lingering throughout the song.
3. Fatal Flaw by Titus Andronicus
With the band name coming from a the greatest writer of all time and that debut named after a classic episode from one of the best comedies all time, Titus Andronicus couldn’t help but be fated to success. Back for more for the first time since 2012, the band is strong, open, and honest, busting out perhaps the most upbeat song you’ve heard about addiction in your life.
2. Back Of The Car by RAC, Nate Henricks
Known for being an innovator and trailblazer amongst musicians, André Allen Anjos has built RAC’s name by creating over 200 remixes from artists ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Two Door Cinema Club. Now marking a hallmark all his own, Back Of The Car is the first track he’s created 100% independently. The song reads and sounds like a road trip anthem, with Nate Hendricks killing it on the vocals.
1. Can’t Feel My Face by The Weeknd
File this one under you might want to have to checked out but makes for a great song, The Weeknd delivers what has already been touted ‘The Song of the Summer’ by several news outlets. Known for his Midas touch and serving as a soundtrack to young girl’s Tumblr pages everywhere, Abel takes it up a notch here, incorporating a little bit of Michael Jackson (think Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough) and his signature irresistible style of crooning.
