The hits kept on coming this week, with appearances by big names in rap; most notably Chris Brown, Fetty Wap, as well as Miguel, who is all too eager to show you why Wildheart, his studio album released late last week, is a work of tremendous growth from him.

The good times make everything seem to fly by in the summer; make sure you head over to Spotify and savor every song on this week’s New Music Tuesday playlist.

robin-thicke-morning-sun-cover10. Morning Sun by Robin Thicke

With the massive attention Blurred Lines got since its release, both good and bad, sometimes it’s best to move in an entire new direction. Well played Robin Thicke, who serves up a sultry Barry White styled groove with Morning Sun. It’s just what is needed to get people associating his name with talent and great music again, rather than showmanship and controversy.

good old war

9. Never Gonna See Me Cry by Good Old War

If you’re in the mood to wax philosophical on everything from love, life, and what the heart wants, and all this served up ‘lite,’ look no further than Good Old War’s latest album, Broken Into Better Shape. Never Gonna See Me Cry is one such track that plays up to such themes, it’s easy on the ears as the duo strums along. Perfect for your morning commute.

lil-wayne-charlie-puth-nothing-but-trouble

8. Nothing But Trouble by Lil Wayne, Charlie Puth

Director Alexander Dunn put out a documentary earlier in the year that chronicles Roland West, the creator of the 808 drum machine, which ushered in a whole new era of where ‘there didn’t have to be a tune, it could just be noise.’ As the film prepares for its official release later in the year, Lil Wayne and Charlie Puth have collaborated; Weezy for the clever lines Puth for the harmony (obviously). The two brood over influences and a lifestyle that have taken their toll, possibly hinting at what’s to come in the film.

petite noir

7. Down by Petite Noir

Nothing’s a higher honor in new music than be reviewed as ‘refreshing’ and here Petite Noir serves it up with a capital R, infusing traditional African musical techniques with a new wave vibe, while still managing to produce a very ‘now’ sound. It it will have you moving as soon as the song gets going, and singing along to ‘we not going, dowww,ah,a,ah,wwww, ahah’ (trust me).

xambassadors

6. Gorgeous by X-Ambassadors

If you’re a frequent listener to alt-rock radio, there’s a huge chance that you’re well acquainted with X-Ambassdors previous single, Renegades. Officially having released their latest album VHS on June 30th, Gorgeous is another stand out track, and likely to be an unique experience of hearing four men in a rock band wailing ‘you make feel so gorgeous.’

hunter hunted

5. Lucky Day by Hunter Hunted

Every summer needs a some ukulele, and if you’re like most people, a little extra something added to that ukulele. Hunter Hunted has got you covered, starting with some light strumming then progressively moving to a hearty, cheery, groove filled song for you to get along to. Best for motivation on the way to a job interview.

chet faker

4. Bend by Chet Faker

Chet Faker, an Electronica legend in his native Australia for years, may be most notable in the US and elsewhere worldwide for his airy cover of Backstreet’s No Diggity (which is legendary in its own right). The Faker subtly roars to life on Bend, producing a fresh blend of electro bluesy wonderfulness. Perfect for your commute after work.

jimi charles moody

3. Other Man by Jimi Charles Moody

It’s often said betrayal and heartache are best expressed through the forum of music, and what better way to describe where it hurts than ‘Lover, I wanna go deaf when I hear you say I Love You to the other man.’ The music backs him up here, a mixture of piano and drums to punctuate each painful thought.

fratellis

2. Baby Don’t You Lie! To Me by The Fratellis

It’s that signature Fratelli sound that keeps fan coming back year and year – super amped up, quippy lyrics, and charm for days. All are present and accounted for on Baby Don’t You Lie To Me! which has a temperance that echoes parts of one of their first major singles, Flathead. Their first release in two years, it’s a great welcome back until their full album, Wide Eyed & Tongued Tied is released in August.

1001. 100 by The Game, feat. Drake

Keeping it 100 is extremely important to Drake, or as he describes in 100 “All I ever ask is keep it 8 more than 92 with me, 100.” Fair enough. 100 plays out as broken into two songs, starting off with The Game’s fast paces laments of how fame changes those around you, the usual. When Drake’s verses arrive, his tone is super chill, slowing everything down a bit….while still keeping his rap prowess exactly at 100.
