For all you Canon lovers out there, this upcoming announcement may make you drool. Canon will soon be releasing more information about their new camera, the Canon 5Ds, hopefully within the week. While we don’t have all the details, thanks to digicame-info, a Japanese camera site, we do know that this new camera looks to be the next full frame beast in the Canon lineup with a whopping 50.6MP (No that’s not mistype. They aren’t messing around with this one). They are said to also announce the Canon 5Ds R which is another version of the 5Ds that comes “without a low-pass filter for greater sharpness at the expense of more moire”.
It is reported that the camera will have “1.3x and 1.6x crop modes that allow you to only use a portion of the full frame sensor for lower-resolution photographs”. For those who don’t need a 50.6MP file size for every image they take, this option will be very useful. Rumors are also making rounds about the low ISO range, with it only being 100-6400. Canon Rumors heard that this lower maximum ISO is due to the camera having “a much stronger CFA [color filter array] which will produce much greater color accuracy than anything currently in the Canon lineup.”
Needless to say, we are very excited for the official announcement from Canon and the release date of this new camera. Rumors have it that the 5Ds will retail for nearly $4,000 when it launches. But if you don’t want to break the bank just yet, here is a list we compiled of 5 “Prosumer” or mid-range cameras that will still get the job done while you save up for new Canon 5Ds.

While this camera isn’t cheap, it doesn’t fail to deliver quality images with excellent performance and features.
