Kumho Road Venture AT52 Tire – Review

If you’re looking for a tire that can handle it all, you may want to consider the Kumho Road Venture AT52. I’ve had these tires for a couple of months now and I’ve already put some good mileage on them. If you live in or have ever visited Michigan, then you know our roads are far from the best. Our four seasons can really be condensed into 2 seasons… Winter and Construction season. That said, finding a solid tire that can not only handle all weather, but can also handle the giant potholes, dirt roads, and even off road detours can be tricky. I was really looking for a tire that could handle it all… and I believe I found that in the AT52.

The AT52 replaces Kumho’s older AT51, offering major upgrades in ride comfort, reduced cabin noise, tread life, and all weather traction. It carries the 3‑Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, meaning it meets industry standards for severe winter traction. Construction features include options from standard, XL, 6-ply, 8-ply, 10-ply, and 12-ply reinforced casing, wear resistant compound, extreme side-biters, and all-season cut-and-chip resistant compound for a long tread life.

On-Road Handling & Comfort

The AT52 has excellent dry traction control. It’s stable around the corners and has a crisp steering response. In wet conditions, the hydroplaning resistance is noticeable, providing ease of mind while on the highway or maintaining high speeds on wet roads. The AT52 balances a rugged tread profile with surprisingly low road noise and a composed ride. While these aren’t as quiet as touring tires, when you factor in the build quality and durable construction, it’s worth the trade off. Plus, they do seem quiet when compared to other off-road tires I’ve tested.  The large, interlocking tread blocks and rigid center blocks help with straight-line driving and handling while cruising the highway.

Off‑Road Capability

These tires are very capable across mud, sand, gravel, and rocky trails. The rugged shoulder blocks with saw-tooth like edges provide excellent traction and mud‑shedding capabilities. The multi-angle sipes and zig-zag grooves also enhance off-road performance. The reinforced sidewalls resist punctures and damage even when deflated for soft-surface travel. While on a trip up north, we did a little off roading and the traction and control felt excellent. 

Winter Performance

As mentioned above, the AT52 is 3PMSF certified thanks to the additional longitudinal snow traction. While I haven’t tested these tires out in the snow yet, I’m confident it will handle it better than my previous tires. I’ll make sure to update this section once winter hits us here in Michigan.

Tread Life & Durability

While I don’t often haul massive loads with my truck, I still opted in for the LT 10-ply because of the reinforced sidewalls and tread for added measure to prevent a blowout during hard off-roading or hitting a giant Michigan pothole. I could have opted in for the 4-ply which probably would have provided a more comfortable and quiet ride, however, owning a truck means having the ability to put it to work. I would rather have a slightly louder ride and the ability to haul heavy loads with 3085lbs per tire and added protection. 

While owner reports show ~40,000 miles of even wear and solid tread life before replacement; Kumho offers a 60 month warranty on all commercial tires as well as a 55K P-Metric limited tread wear warranty and a 50K LT-Metric limited tread wear warranty. Time will tell on how well these tires hold up, but it’s nice to see that Kumho backs their tires with a solid warranty. Overall, I’m happy with my selection and the tread provided on these tires.

Final Take

The Kumho Road Venture AT52 is a rugged and well rounded tire (pun intended) that can handle all of the seasons and off-road adventures, yet refined and quiet enough on pavement. It delivers long life, confidence in rain and wet conditions, and reliable stability for highway towing or hauling—without the premium price of top-tier all-terrain brands.

If you’re looking for a tire that fits both everyday driving and occasional adventure—and want mileage durability with limited noise—the AT52 is an excellent choice.
