Chrome Industries has a history of crafting “form with function” clothing. Their latest Storm Salute Commute Jacket is their most recent take on a taped rain shell that works on and off the bike. So how well did it perform? Let’s dive in…

Key Features:

  • Reflective details on back, arm, and wrists

  • Zippered interior phone pocket and back cargo pocket

Storm Salute Commute Review Breakdown

Design:

The Chrome Industries “look” definitely comes through in the new Storm Salute Commute Jacket.  The design is simple, clean, and functional. The oversized hood is helmet friendly while the back pocket is big enough to store your wallet, keys, phone, and several other items all at once. There is also more storage capacity located within the zip chest pockets. The slight drop tail is great while you are riding to help cover up your rear, while the reflective accents help protect the rest of you by keeping you visible during a night ride.

Performance:

As a rain shell, the Storm Salute Commute Jacket keeps you dry with the 2.5 layer waterproof breathable stretch poly. Although the word “stretch” is stretching it a bit. Of all the items I’ve worn with the label “stretch”, this is the least amount of stretch I’ve felt. However, it DOES keep you dry when the weather isn’t so friendly thanks to the fully seamed seal with a 10k/10k waterproof rating. The hood is adjustable so you can wear it with or without your helmet. If you start to get a little warm, you have an upper back yoke vent to cool things down a bit.

Comfort:

Unfortunately this isn’t the most comfortable jacket I’ve worn from Chrome Industries. With minimal stretch and a not so ideal internal poly material, I had a hard time wearing this jacket for more than a few hours at a time.

Value:

For $185, you get a light jacket that will keep you dry. If the comfort level was higher, I would say this price is justified. The quality is there, but the comfort really isn’t for me. I would pick this jacket up if there was a discount, but have a hard time justifying the $185 price tag.

Storm Salute Commute - Chrome Jacket
Chrome Industries is great (most of the time). But unfortunately the Storm Salute Commute Jacket was just adequate. Nothing spectacular about this jacket, but it does have some decent features as well as good quality. I just don't think it's one of Chrome Industries best jackets for the price point.
