American Harvest Organic Spirit first and foremost is an American crafted small batch vodka – it’s also a real life lesson in sustainable manufacturing. You see, American Harvest (the product and the distillery) is USDA Certified organic, which means its main ingredient (hard red winter wheat) is grown without the use of any commercial fertilizers or chemicals of any type, and the distillation process is completely free of preservatives and additives. To achieve this, American Harvest sources its wheat locally in Rigby, Idaho (or “Snake River USA” as the bottle reads) from the farm of Steve Rhodes, a 3rd generation farmer. Steve’s farm has been certified organic since 2005, but he says they’ve been growing their crops the same way his grandfather did dating back almost 100 years… you know – the way mother nature intended it.

Furthering their dedication to sustainability, American Harvest also powers 1/3 of their (independently owned and operated) distillery with energy produced from nearby wind farms and embosses their 100% recycled glass bottles with organic inks.

As we mentioned earlier American Harvest is crafted in small batches from red winter wheat. To begin the “field to bottle journey” grain is first stripped from the wheat stalks and milled into flour. The flour is then mixed with water, heated and turned into mash, which is then transferred to a fermentation tank. In the fermentation tank yeast is added and the mix ferments for up to four days – until the sugars have converted to alcohol (my favorite part!!).

At this point distillation truly begins… in a big way! To distill American Harvest four continuous column stills are utilized before the spirit is then blended with a proprietary mix of organic ingredients and then fresh water sourced from an aquifer located deep beneath the Snake River plain in Idaho. To finish off it all off the spirit lastly undergoes a four step charcoal filtration process to ensure purity before reaching the hand (yes… I said hand) bottling line.

As you may have noticed a lot of time, effort and serious thought has gone in to every aspect of the production of American Harvest, so when we were approached nearly three weeks ago to taste and review this unique vodka we were happy to say yes, and now we’re proud to share the results with you.

Overall: We give American Harvest Organic Spirit a B (Highly Recommended) Its uniquely sweet profile tastes well balanced, clean and proved to be excellent for mixing as well as sipping on the rocks (talking to you vodka-philes!). Though, admittedly we preferred this vodka mixed by far overall. While it’s not overwhelmingly sweet you’ll certainly notice it’s not your typical vodka. It has a smooth texture that is warm and welcoming. Our review crew gives American Harvest props for its overall presentation – the bottle is a show piece! As well as its initial smoothness and subtle kick in the pants which is delivered when half way though drinking it neat. The aftertaste isn’t anything to write home about, but overall is a great new vodka with with a truly unique look and taste.
