Cigar smokers the world over are pretty simple to please. All we need is a smoke that features a unique taste that proves itself throughout the entire smoking experience, a place to enjoy it, and maybe a drink or five to accompany the event. Rocky Patel is that one friend everyone has who turns an ordinary moment in time into a party, and no where is that better showcased than in his cigars.

Like a friend who is always setting the trend, Rocky brings his Special Reserve Sun Grown Maduro to a simple gathering and turns it into a party. With layers of craftsmanship, rich flavors, and an unwavering construction, Rocky highlights the boldness of the Esteli tobacco with every puff.

Sun Grown Maduro Review“Made in our boutique factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, this triple-capped, hand-bunched and hand-rolled cigar is accompanied by a gorgeous Broadleaf wrapper. Well-balanced, rich and decadent: this is a truly great addition to any humidor and worthy of bearing the long respected “Sun Grown” name.”  ~Rocky Patel

Rocky Patel Special Reserve Sun Grown Maduro Breakdown

Sun Grown Maduro ReviewConstruction:

Bright and airy, the Box-pressed style keeps the cigar on point throughout the entire smoke. Drawing on years of expertise, and impeccable standards, the expertly wrapped Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro gives the flowing air the chance to highlight the rich flavors of the Nicaraguan Filler and Binder. Rocky Patel’s uncompromising attention to detail provides the perfect foundation for the smoking experience.

Draw:

Jumping off from the spot-on construction, the draw shows a light, cool air weaving through the wrapper that brings with it an evolving profile of flavors. As with most Box-pressed cigars, the Rocky Patel Special Reserve Sun Grown Maduro features a consistent cool draw letting the nuances come to the surface.

Burn:

Staying the course of consistency, the burn of the Rocky Patel Special Reserve Sun Grown Maduro exemplifies how Rocky Patel has built his brand on not settling for mediocre. From the Construction and Draw, down to the Burn, the cigar never wavers from the path Patel forged. Needing only small corrections here and there throughout the smoke, Patel seemed to add in an element of relaxation, letting the sense of enjoyment take over, rather than a need to focus on fixing flaws.

Sun Grown Maduro ReviewAroma:

Prelit :

  • Bitter Latte
  • Fresh Cashews
  • Toasted Brittle

Lit:

  • Cracked Black Pepper
  • Robust Coffe
  • Rich Leather

Flavor:

Like that first sip of bright, bold black coffee in the morning, the Rocky Patel Special Reserve Sun Grown Maduro comes out revving its Nicaraguan engine. Notes of black pepper dominate the first third of the cigar and then begin to intermingle with dark cocoa and freshly roasted coffee beans. As the first third bleeds into the next stages, the cigar finds a compromise between the sweet, honeyed smoke an and the peppery, brash tobacco from the famed Esteli region of Nicaragua. As the cigar winds down, the same unrelenting brazen flavors peek back through the smoke and finish you off with one last surge of Patel’s proclamation that he will not be forgotten.

Value:

Hovering around the $8.50 mark each penny is accounted for. While the box-pressed style makes it a bit of a quicker smoke, you’re still getting an amazing bang for your buck. Rocky Patel produces cigars that are not for the faint-hearted, while their prices promote the idea of celebrating everyday and not saving a “good” cigar for only special times. With their mission to place quality cigars in the hands of those looking for a well-structured smoke, the Rocky Patel Special Reserve Sun Grown Maduro delivers on all accounts.
