When The Palmas released I Want To Know this past September, the song oozed with that end of summer sunshine, pressing through the windows. Now that summer has been sweetly tucked away and winter approacheth, the song acts as a miniature time portal back into the days of easy living, ready for the band’s debut EP, out next week. The song has a classic indie vibe, bordering on a 60s retro throwback feel.
9. Sunday Morning by BØRNS, Petite Muller
H&M knew what they were doing when they recruited this pair for their ad campaign labeled #HMFALLINLOVE. The song, which does not stray far from the musicality of The Velvet Underground’s original, is drenched in early morning sleepy-eyed wonderment and romantic feelings. Petite Muller adds her dose of French chic, while BØRNS breathy whispers keeps the song elusive and way chill. Perfect for on repeat in H&M dressing rooms.
8. God Damn Fool by Charlie Styzk
Charlie Styzk fancies himself a lovesick fool on this track off of his debut EP, The Arc Pt. 1 & 2, but the truth is we haven’t known Charlie long enough to make that assessment. That first taste we got of this fresh voice to Spotify was in 2014 with his initial release of God Damn Fool. The song has been perked up a bit, but still retains its unobtrusiveness, affectionate tone, and is quick and sweet clocking in at only two minutes. Perfect for a coffeehouse playlist.
7. Can’t Get Enough Of Myself by Santigold
They say to love yourself is the start of a lifelong love affair and Santigold is here to show you how it’s done. This one is stroll down the street easy to listen to; you can see the protagonist walking along with the earth rising up to meet her, stopping only to admire her reflection in the window. With the song’s cheery disposition Santigold won’t be the only one who can’t get enough herself.
6. MMM by Diddy, Future, King Los
Eminem once wrote the rhyme “This is my life and these times are so hard, and it’s no movie, there’s no Mekhi Phifer.” Well times have changed, and MMM is the direct antithesis of this statement, right down to Mekhi Phifer. If you haven’t heard yet, Diddy’s surprise latest stands for Money Makin’ Mitch, from the 2002 film Paid In Full starring, you guessed it, Mekhi Phifer. It’s an offbeat reference and an infectious three liner that hip hop track legends are made of. Ready for the morning playlist on your way to get that money.

The last we’d heard from Sia she was producing a bone chilling chorus of refined wails of “I’m alive.” Here on Bird Set Free her embrace of life is clear as she sings in the beginning of the song, “I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die.” Alas it’s the beautiful and intricate arrangements that we’ve come to recognize and expect from Sia. With tracks like Bird Set Free Sia continues to represents the best things music can offer – solace and a feeling of personal freedom.
4. Codes by Ellie Goulding
This week celebrates the release of Delirium, Ellie’s latest full of dance floor readiness. Fans of her select genre, which can be filed somewhere under starry eyed ethereal yet unabashedly ‘pop’, will appreciate tracks like Code. The song delves into a straightforward request for a little more straightforward method of communication, to put it bluntly: Stop Talking In Codes! A good one to sing to your friend who only texts you in emojis.
3. Diamonds (Gold Rush) by Salute
Diamonds is a track that hits you right away, starting with an intense and full orchestra that makes you feel like you’re in the chase scene of an action movie. The song quickly ebbs to an EDM electric orchestra, giving you those techno-y layers and baseline the kids go crazy for. The result is a track that sounds just as good blasting out your speakers with the windows rolled down as it would in an underground rave.
2. Pretty Pimpin’ (Live From Spotify NYC) by Kurt Vile
Ain’t no love like the love between a man and his guitar, and on Pretty Pimpin’ Kurt Vile puts that love to work, the sharp notes created by guitar holding the track to its pace. Keeping in the vein of themes of Spotify Sessions, Vile keeps the track crisp and clear, and it works. Very well. The timing of Spotify Sessions comes perfectly, as the artist is enjoying the success of b’lieve i’m going down, leaving fans at that stage of wanting more and something fresh. 1. Holding On For Life by Ellie Goulding
If we compare Holding On For Life to Ellie’s most recognizable tracks – Lights, and Love Me Like You Do, taken to the next stratosphere by 50 Shades Of Grey, this strand of Goulding comes out with guns particularly blazing. Ellie has been a staple on New Music Friday for the last several weeks, and it’s easy to see why: Delirium is full of easy to listen to tracks that go down smooth for an instant buzz, like a well crafted shot.
